The Pilgrims Way 1976

Day 10 - Caterham to Borough Green

After early Mass at the Sacred Heart, we returned to the Parish Centre for breakfast and an early start for this long day (Bill's excuse is that the school we were due to stay in was demolished, necessitating a new destination).

A longish but uneventful morning took us to The Ship at Tatsfield

accompanied by this trio of young ladies from Caterham

We were led in procession from the pub ...

... to St Mary's CofE/RC shared church for prayers.

In the afternoon, we had permission from Prince Charles to pass through his Chevening Estate, reaching St Botolphs church, Chevening, a welcome rest.

Which some needed more than others

Another hour brought us to Otford, where we paused to rest beside the pond

before prayers at Holy Trinity

Our route then took us through apple orchards, and Margaret presented one to Bill

before we reached Ightham Church

Eventually, and not before a car driver who took exception at us crossing the road and drove at Bill (he was later prosecuted for the offence), we reached Western Hall at Borough Green.
