The Pilgrims Way 1976

Day 11 - Borough Green to Aylesford

There are no photos of this morning's walk, and I seem to recall that it was wet at lunchtime, so maybe this was a rainy day. We celebrated Mass in the Hall before departure, a short morning's walk to the Vigo Inn.

The afternoon took us past Paddlesworth Church

and Snodland Church where we prayed

to the wharf, where the Royal Navy had provided a pinnace to ferry us across and up the River Medway. As this stretch is tidal, we needed a ladder to embark!

and we went in a couple of batches

They landed us near Burham Church

with a wonderful sunset

and an hour's walk from The Friars at Aylesford. This is our accommodation

and the view from the window over the river

but they originally wanted us to stay in the old potteries (below). Some hardy pilgrims took up the challenge!
