The Pilgrims Way 1976

Day 4: Rest Day in Winchester

Our treat on the rest day was to celebrate Mass in Winchester Cathedral, probably the first time since the Reformation that a Mass in the Roman Rite was celebrated (I've heard others claim to be first, but at a later date!). Here the 2 pilgrim priests, Bob, Bill and Pat, stand by the poster announcing the service.

And here the pilgrims gather around the High Altar for the service

Outside, just look at that azure sky!

We were staying in the Club Room, part of the old convent adjacent to St Peter's church (now gone). With the heat inside, the convent garden was a treat...

... and some of us resorted to sleeping out there

Meanwhile the girls decided that Francis' hair was just too long, and took the law into their own hands.
