The Glastonbury Pilgrimage 1978

Day 12 - Steeple Langford / Wylye to Maiden Bradley

Those who'd had the shorter walk yesterday had a 2 mile preliminary this morning, and we had to load the van promptly to go to Wylye and collect luggage from the other pilgrims...

...who were at Wylye Village Hall.

Reunited, we prayed at St Mary the Virgin, Wylye.

then at St Nicholas, Fisherton de la mere

before reaching the Dove at Corton for lunch

Soon after lunch we reached the tiny and ancient church of St James, Tytherington

Five miles over the downs took us to the Deverills, where we found this welcome pinned to the gatepost as we entered the parish (still some way from the church)

Not only a message of welcome, but tea too!

then we prayed at their church at Kingston Deverill

before heading on into Maiden Bradley. It was a long drag in, backmarking behind an ever slower Eileen across ploughed fields, and dark before we arrived, tempted by the welcome of the village pub.
