The Glastonbury Pilgrimage 1978

Day 13 - Maiden Bradley to Castle Cary

We were welcomed by the vicar at All Saints, Maiden Bradley, where we celebrated Mass.

Then it was up onto the marvellous Wiltshire downland

eventually reaching Stourton, next to the stately home of Stourhead.

Here we lunched at the Spread Eagle

which we clearly enjoyed

However, not everyone enjoyed it! Patrick managed to get a wasp inside his shirt. By the time he realised what was going on, he'd been stung many times. So if you'd wondered why he always seems to be waging a one-man war on wasps, that's why.

Before leaving Stourton we prayed at St Peter' Church.

Heading west brought us to Alfred's Tower, which we all duly climbed for the view (which was splendid but not done justice by the photos)

Late in the afternoon, we stopped at St Leonard's, Pitcombe, leaving just a couple of miles to Ansford School, Castle Cary.

That evening, we went out for a quiet drink in the town, after which we found the old lock-up, and felt obliged to tie Fr Bob in it. However, he did make it back to the school.
