The Glastonbury Pilgrimage 1978

Day 4: Ryde to Ventnor

This day took us from the north coast to the south cost of the island, but not in a straight line! We headed west first to Quarr Abbey for Mass.

We then turned south

And some just had to get a tan!

The route notes have prayers before lunch; Bill's slides are in the reverse order. So I don't know which happened first! Lunch was at the Pointer Inn at Newchurch.

It was Margaret's 18th, so her family came to visit (being easier than dragging a dedicated pilgrim away from the pilgrimage)

And we did pray, at All Saints.

Nobody had warned us just how hilly the Isle of Wight is, and several were flagging as we climbed the last, Shanklin Down

from where it was a ridge walk to Bonchurch, and St Boniface's Old Church

before descending into Ventnor, and finding St Wilfred's Church Hall.
