The 2nd Canterbury Pilgrimage 1979

Day 11: Wadhurst to Forest Row

The day starts with loading the van - so much easier with a proper van and a translucent roof!

A short walk takes us to the Sacred Heart, Wadhurst, for Mass.

While many pilgrims like to avoid the news whilst on pilgrimage, such awful news needed to be read.

There followed a long morning's walk across the weald

to a very welcome Boars Head.

We are going to pass right through Five Hundred Acre Wood, so for Winnie the Pooh fans this is hallowed ground. Some just have to prepare themselves with a reading form the hallowed tome.

And then, on the genuine Pooh Sticks Bridge, the pilgrims play Pooh Sticks.

It's a long way to our first prayer stop of the day, Holy Trinity at Colemans Hatch - 18 miles in!

The final approach to Forest Row is along an old railway line, which generally makes for easier walking. We stop for Benediction at Our Lady of the Forest Church.

Before reaching Forest Row Village Hall.
