The 2nd Canterbury Pilgrimage 1979

Day 13: Haywards Heath to Upper Beeding

Today's Mass was celebrated in the open air at St Paul's school.

Another Wealden walk ("muddy if wet; muddy if not") took us to Bolney and the Eight Bells.

But isn't that 7 bells they've been knocking out of Patrick?

Just a short step across the road to St Mary Magdalen's, a church which is partly Saxon.

St Peter's, Twineham, on the other hand is 13th century brick

Henfield's parish church, St Peter's, is also 13th Century

whilst the Catholic Church of Corpus Christi is clearly modern (and would you like a hymn book?)

At one of the Henfield Churches we were given tea (most welcome)

The tea was fortification for the final 5 miles to Upper Beeding, with a stretch along the River Adur as the sun was setting.

And so to The Towers - as one our very first pilgrimage.
