The Buckfast Centenary Pilgrimage 1982

Day 15: Chudleigh to Buckfast Abbey

An early start to our final walking day, leaving Chudleigh (so early that there are no pictures of the Parish Church where we celebrated Holy Communion).

It's not long before the views of Dartmoor start appearing.

A little early for our first prayer stop, a chance for a second breakfast at Chudleigh Knighton.

The over the road to the church.

A few more miles took us to Bovey Tracey, where we celebrated a mid-morning Mass at the Holy Ghost church.

Soon the climbing started, as we made our way to lunch...

...the Rock Inn being at about 1,000 feet.

A chance to recuperate - with food...

...or relaxation.

After lunch it's up again towards Hay Tor rocks...

...where most climb to the top.

Then down the far side...

...before climbing to Rippon Tor (the highest point of our pilgrimage).

As in 1980, we stopped at the Ten Commandments Stone for prayers...

...before descending into the Dart Valley and making our final approach to Buckfast Abbey.
