The Papal Pilgrimage 1982P

Day 7: Wembley

Our final day, and the reason for our pilgrimage. It's not a no-walking day, just a short day. In fact, we have a shorter walk than most of those who've come by coach! It's also a gentle walk along the streets of Wembley, no need for boots and so on, but pilgrim crosses are still de rigeur.

It may be a short walk, but it still takes time to filter 100,000 people into the stadium. In the run-up to the Mass itself, there was a parade of banners.

During the Mass, this statue of Our Lady of Walsingham was brought up and blessed.

Cardinal Basil Hume and the Pope at the offertory.

The Papal Blessing

Dismissed, we filtered out of the stadium and made our way back to Tokyngton, where we enjoyed a celebration meal (of course, Julian always enjoys his food, more than those who sit opposite him!)

Following the meal, there were presentations, including medals for those who's walked all the way

This is the Papal Medal we were awarded
