The Lindisfarne Pilgrimage 1984

The Lindisfarne Pilgrimage 1984

Our first pilgrimage without Fr Bill Haynes at the helm was also the most adventurous to date (and probably since!). Starting in York, covering a huge distance, largely over rough and remote terrain, ending up on an Island accessible only at low tide, this was a logistical challenge, especially for a new leader.

But, as the following pages will tell, we made it. Not without pain, injury and interpersonal tensions, but we made it.

These pages are illustrated predominantly with photos taken by the late Brenda Dillon.

I was there, as they say, but my memory for the events of 18 years ago is limited. Seeing these pictures has brought back many events I'd forgotten. If they do the same for you, let me know and I'll weave them into the story.
