The Lindisfarne Pilgrimage 1984

Day 15: Whittingham to Wooler

Our penultimate walking day is another remote one. Soon after departure we stopped at Glanton URC Church for a Communion service.

Then out of Glanton...

As I recall the morning's walk was largely over farmland.

Bill and Snoopy needed a rest

Farmland means stiles!

This was another day without a pub! There simply weren't any near the route, and alternative routes were unattractive (roads, missing the hills, etc).

Lunch was by the River Breamish, and the van again brought supplies. The river provided entertainment!

After lunch we went up! The terrain got wilder, the hills higher...

.. the heather more attractive

Eventually we approached Langlee Crags - a significant ridge of hills between us and the valley that led to Wooler, within the Cheviot National Park.

Over the top we dropped down into the valley, which we largely followed into the town.

In Wooler, I think the rain had started. We celebrated Mass at St Ninian's, having sheltered in a pub as we were ahead of time for once. So it was a late arrival at the hall.
