The Bath Pilgrimage 1986

Day 13: Westbury to Bath

Early morning prayers at All Saints, Westbury.

Why are the days I lead always wet? Pat and Jo leaving Westbury.

We had to negotiate several railway lines via pedestrian crossings.

Fee's T-shirt attracted Bill's attention.

Stefan inspects the open-air baptismal pool at Southwick.

Prayers and coffee at St Thomas', Southwick.

Terry meets the vicar.

St Mary's, Wingfield.

Happy despite the rain!

Battling througha field of maize does nothing for keeping the water out.

Drenched frontmarkers at St Mary the Virgin, Westwood.

We rejoin the canal near Bradford-on-Avon.

Maurice searches for the best pub in town.

There are choices for lunch - it's "free time".

Maybe not so free for Frances, who's shopping for supper.

After lunch we celebrate Mass in the tiny Saxon church of St Laurence.

Louise and James as we leave Bradford-on-Avon.

Bridge over the River Avon.

Boys will be boys - flour bomb on the riverbank.

Back to the PEACEFUL River Avon.

Did I say peaceful?

Who is the common thread in these pictures, Stephen?

Alan and Eileen escape and head towards Bath.

The pilgrims gather up under the old viaduct on the former Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway...

And, with Julian at the front, the pilgrim train departs for Bath, following the line of the railway.

Leading us to Prior Park College, a Catholic school on the hillside above Bath.
