DAY NINE  Lewes to Brighton

Another day and the van to be packed once more.

Just a short walk to our first stop, St Anne's (Anglican) Church, where we joined with the regulars for their Parish Eucharist.

Once our walk proper began, we ascended quite steeply and our first drinks stop gave us an opportunity to appreciate the view.

We had two prayer stops today. The first was at St Pancras Church, Kingston, where Mary led a short act of worship, in which a lighted candle was passed around the church as a symbol of each of us taking the Light of Christ into our lives.

Sometimes, when walking there is a problem with route arrows being removed or turned round so front markers tend to put up more than are actually needed. But sometimes they get a little carried away with themselves.

Our second stop was at St Richard's Church, Hollingdean. Not much to look at from the outside . . .

. . . but rather a pleasant surprise on the inside.

Here Monica led prayers for all those former pilgrims who are unable to join us this year for whatever reason, but who are with us in spirit, following our plan and praying with us and for us on our pilgrimage.

We arrived in Brighton, just in time for our second mass of the day at St Mary Magdalen's (Roman Catholic) Church. Again we joined regular parishioners and this time some of our musicians contributed to the service.

Pilgrims are adept at providing their own entertainment and shortly after our arrival at St Mary Magadalen's School, where we are staying tonight and tomorrow, Joyce, inspired by the school's PE equipment gave an impromptu demonstration of hula-hooping.

This may become a new pilgrim craze as soon she found she was teaching a class.

Some of her students were quite successful.

Terry provided more of a challenge for his teacher.

Tomorrow is another rest day but not quite the lie-in some pilgrims were hoping for. As is often the case with schools during the long holiday, the builders are in and will be starting work (probably noisily) first thing in the morning.
