For only the second time, our pilgrimage didn't start in Arundel (and on this occasion it wasn't our destination either). Rather we set out from Brighton, at the church of St Martin with St Wilfrid, starting as we would go on, aiming to visit all the St Wilfrid churches in Sussex.
After prayers, we headed to the main Brighton church of St Peter's, where we celebrated the first of many "split Eucharists". This was our first ecumenical pilgrimage, recognising that all Christian churches acknowledge St Wilfrid as the "Apostle of Sussex", and we would strive to find a formula that would allow us to worship together whlst obeying the rules on intercommunion.
After our Eucharist and registration, we headed through the middle of Brighton, passing the King and Queen pub, an erstwhile meeting place of local pilgrims.
Then we passed the Brighton Royal Pavillion.

Somewhere along the seafront someone appeared with a tray of peaches - welcome refreshment!
Lunch was at the Adur by Hove Lagoon. At least one pilgrim (Tim, whose birthday it was) went in the lagoon while we were there.
Physically refreshed, we headed across Portslade Rec to Our Lady Star of the Sea church for spiritual refreshment.
Some of us seem very refreshed indeed - in very high spirits!
From the edge of the sea anywhere is up, and so it was that we went up - onto the South Downs - where we were rewarded with our first drink stop.
Afternoon prayers were at Botolphs Church.
And so to Findon, and the village hall that would provide our first night's accommodation.
In fact, many spent much of the night singing and merrymaking in the garden of the local pub.
