Trains to Alton leave Waterloo, and stops include Clapham Junction and Woking.  From Alton station, the Winchester/Southampton buses (64/X64) run through Ropley on the A31.  Timetable excerpts are given below.

Trains also run to Winchester from the north, south west and south coast, and the X64 bus runs from there to Ropley at 54 minutes past until 1754, after that change at bus station. Note that Winchester is 50% more expensive if coming from London!

Either way, alight at the Chequers not the Anchor, head west along the main road and left up Berry Hill (see map). We will try to meet some buses.
