DAY SIXTEEN  Homeward Bound

The very end - really the day after the end. Only the briefest of reports for you today, and no pictures.

A lie-in, or at least an 8.30 rise, which amounts to a lie-in in pilgrimage terms.

Some of us were disturbed a little earlier by an altar boy, passing through the hall to use the toilet, who was rather astounded by sleeping bodies all over the floor.

Breakfast was something of a free-for-all, in that any food remaining was on offer, including some leftovers from last night's celebration.

Pilgrims began to go their separate ways straight after breakfast, some setting off in cars - their own or having begged a lift - and others by train.

Those who weren't going until later, attended the Parish Mass, where they were made to feel very welcome.

Also, of course, apart from the tidying away which takes place when we leave any hall, more sorting was necessary as the pilgrimage paraphernalia is packed away and distributed for storage until next time.

As for me, I finally arrived back home in Lichfield in the cab of an RAC truck with my car on the back, after the exhaust nearly fell off on the M40. Reality encroached quite swiftly, but somehow the pilgrimage spirit carried me along.
