Day 10: Rest Day in Guildford |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||
Today was a rest day. It rained. All day. Incessantly. There was some indoor entertainment when Betsy arrived with baby Grace, who had a crawling race with Auntie Sue. Eventually we braved the weather and headed up to the Cathedral on the hill - brollies and waterproofs much in evidence. We could see the Cathedral on Stag Hill through the drizzle - just. It became closer as we passed by the station. A select (and damp) group were given a tour of the cathedral by one of the official guides. The cathedral is relatively modern, started pre-war completed later in the 20th century. It's dedicated to the Holy Spirit. And has a simple but peaceful interior. We attended said evening prayer in the Lady Chapel. It has a stunning ceiling Then we headed back down the hill: Maggie said Chris had always wanted to wear a mitre - he's getting closer! The dedication of the Cathedral is that of our pilgrimage Some succumbed to a lift back to the hall - but the scholars walked. Millie couldn't go out without a bit of a touch up - the highlight of her evening? A large group went to Pizza Express for a convivial evening (even if we had to wait a while) Others went to the Indian but it was a bit of a blur And now, a bit hazy, it's time for bed: we have to walk again tomorrow, and Mass upstairs at 9 a.m. Goodnight e-pilgrims! |
