The first day of the pilgrimage and we make our way to our starting point for this year, Chester, which was the conclusion of our pilgrimage from Gloucester two years ago.
The majority came up by coach from Redhill. Here we see Ann, who is not able to be with us this year, wishing Joan and Cora well for this year's walk.
Others had their own travel arrangements and could even fit a bit of shopping in on the way . . .
. . . for sleeping mats! Nice to see everyone's so well-prepared.
No need to rush though, plenty of time for a drink . . .
Those who got there on time gathered at the cathedral in the twelfth-century Chapel of St Anselm.
Sue read out the list of those present so far and Father David presented this year's crosses, assisted by Tineke.
We were joined at our service by the Dean of Chester.
Another important aspect of the first day of the pilgrimage is catching up with old friends. Here is Fred, chatting with Clare.
In the evening, we enjoyed our first meal together.
In another half hour, it will be lights out. An early start tomorrow, 6.30 rise time, as some will be attending the 8.00 Communion at the Cathedral and we will all be joining the local Catholic community for the 9.00 Mass and then our first day's walking.
