A coach delivers us to Lastingham where we join in the Sunday service in the parish church, which is on the site of the monastery founded by St Cedd from Lindisfarne. Lastingham is at the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, and we are soon heading north over Staunton Moor to Rosedale Abbey for lunch. The afternoon walk follows a river valley then heads across high moorland reaching 1342 feet above sea level: the greatest height that we will achieve on this pilgrimage. We drop down to our hall at Danby in Eskdale, in the heart of the national park.
