The 2nd Canterbury Pilgrimage 1979

Day 14: Upper Beeding to Arundel

A similar route to the final day of the 1975 pilgrimage, but rather than an open air lunch on Kithurst Jill, today we drop down to Washington to find a pub!

After Mass in the convent chapel, we set out. First stop, a mile down the road, is St Nicholas, Bramber.

We then climb up onto the Downs, and after a couple of hours reach Chanctonbury Ring, and sit and rest - just like 1975!

Down off the Downs again to Washington and the Frankland Arms for lunch.

For some, the days of high mileages is just too much!

Others relax in anticipation of the final leg.

After Lunch, it's prayers at St Mary's, Washington.

Then we climb back onto the Downs, rejoining the 1975 route. It's early evening by we drop down to South Stoke for prayers at St Leonard's, where we are greeted by Fr Gilmour McDermott and the Vicar of Arundel.

Mike turned up for the final day, with his "arrow stick" from 1975 and, true to form, located this huge fungus.

Once again, the final leg was through Arundel Park, hand-in-hand.
