The Buckfast Centenary Pilgrimage 1982

Day 12: Lyme Regis to Sidmouth

Duly rested, we resume our journey, now retracing the 1980 route to Buckfast for the last four days. As we climb, we get a view back of Lyme Regis and the Cobb.

Then a view forward to Beer Head - our challenge for the afternoon.

The landslip area was described by Bill as boring - you do walk for several miles hemmed in by trees growing on the slipped soil. Then you come out onto an open path, ultimately skirting the golf club before descending into Seaton.

Lunch was at the Conservative Club!

We then walked along the promenade, with Beer Head in our sights (Beer Head is the most westerly chalk cliff in England).

We then climbed Beer Hill, and were rewarded by views back over Seaton and the Axe valley.

The afternoon was again a series of ascents and descents, often to sea level, accounting for the massive amount of climbing this day. This is Branscombe.

And here Eileen is about to descend to Weston Mouth.

At Salcombe Regis the front markers found time for cream teas!

Before we all prayed at St Mary & St Peter's Church.

Soon our destination was in sight, and it was all downhill!

Over the River Sid.

Here we stayed again in the school, with its space and facilities...

...and food!
