DAY TWELVE Worthing to Arundel A first-thing prayer stop again today - at St Andrew's Church, another church with some striking murals. A short way on, we were at our second prayer stop at St Richard's, Maybridge. Before we went into the church, there was a more urgent matter. A trapped bird needed rescuing. David took the lead and after some ten minutes with scissors and tweezers a successful rescue was accomplished. Patrick led the prayer stop about good and evil and the complexities of the modern world. He is pictured taking a few quiet moments before speaking. Our route took us onto the sunny hills where a drinks stop was much appreciated. Lunch was at a pub with the unusual name of World's End. The pub decor included various (profound?) sayings. Wine-loving Angela particularly appreciated this one. Pat, who was drinking iced water to soothe her sore lip, was amused by this one. In the afternoon, there were two more prayer stops. The first was at St Mary the Virgin, Burpham. On our way to the second stop, we saw some more unusual animals - a herd of bison. Our final en route church was St Leonard's, South Stoke, for DIY prayers. Our route into Arundel revealed it to be an historic town. The castle, high on the hill, looked particularly impressive. Shortly after our arrival, many pilgrims went just down the road from our hall to the Roman Catholic cathedral of Our Lady and St Philip Howard for mass. In the evening, Patrick, armed with his guitar and a group of enthusiastic pilgrims, led an attack on the pub virtually next door to our hall and soon had the regulars joining in. |
