It's time to leave the Afon Teifi - if we didn't, we'd walk back to Cardigan! We climb out of the valley to the south by taking a minor road, due to impassable footpaths. The descent to lunch and the rest of the day's ups and downs are mostly on footpaths. Finally we reach the Afon Tywi (River Towey) in Caerfyrddin (Carmarthen, name means Myrddin’s - or Merlin's - Fort).
Nick and Marie clearing up the hall - yes they are coming downhill, it's a raked hall.
It obviously runs in the family (or they follow like sheep).
A short walk took us to St Tysul's church, and the drizzle started.
Fr David and the Vicar lead the Eucharist.
Maureen and Euan are today's readers.
For the special offering, Bill offered his book of Mary's Hours.
Mike looked down on us all.
Luis is dressed for the weather.
The canoeing course on the Afon Teifi.
Up we climb...
A long, rather wet, road walk ensued.
But it started to dry up after a while.
Ursula in tasteful orange.
Drinks - rather close to the clouds!
A donkey family look on.
Several gates had to be climbed over - Sarah showed us how.
Now let's all try it...
All green and moist and slippery.
Andy and Bridget sneak into the lunch pub.
Howard makes himself at home.
Pilgrims filled the pub.
And the other bar.
Howard - now very much at home!
After lunch, prayers at the nearby church.
Peter talked on education, then did a little dance to "I will be with you"
An alarming ford - but in fact there was a footbridge.
Oh no, another hill for the pilgrim train.
Out into sunshine!
On we go...
St. Cynwyl's Church, Cynwyl Elfed
And inside.
The east window is unique - showing the 5 wounds of Christ
The churchwarden welcomed us and told us about the church.
Isaac and Peter were so engrossed in discussing politics (again) that they held everyone else up.
What's going on here?
After a sharp shower (while we were in the church) the skies cleared.
Up the path to St Michael's, Newchurch, where we were offered refreshments.
The east window.
A rather overgrown path - Sarah is in there somewhere.
And so, into Carmarthen.
The Catholic Church (we're staying in their hall).
The front markers put up the last arrow.
