After leaving Kendal we enter the Lake District National Park. In the morning we follow the delightfully named “Gamblesmire Lane” which is probably an old drovers’ road. Lunch is at the Sun Inn, Crook. Continuing to Bowness we cross Lake Windermere on the vehicle ferry, where for those feeling peckish mid-afternoon, there is a snack kiosk by the ferry landing stage where we board. Loos are available there too, but the loos on the far side of the lake have the advantage of being free (donation optional). We then follow a new cycle/pedestrian path almost all the way into Ambleside.
