The 2nd Canterbury Pilgrimage 1979

Day 12: Forest Row to Haywards Heath

The local Parish Priest turned up to see us off from Forest Row.

The morning walk took us round Weir Wood Reservoir

and ultimately to Turners Hill and the Crown pub.

There wasn't much space around the pub, so many pilgrims sat on the green, where we were welcomed by a monk from Worth Abbey (just down the road, and our next stop).

Meanwhile some just soaked up that sunshine

Fr Bob was clearly glad to be at Worth (which probably means it was before he got tied to the flag pole)

We celebrated Mass in the modern abbey church

And after refreshments set out past the older abbatial buildings

Late afternoon and another reservoir - Ardingly this time - and a splendid bridge to take us over the water.

and on to St Peter's, Ardingly, for prayers

we seem to have passed the reservoir again on our way out of the village

A couple more hours of walking took us to St Paul's School in Haywards Heath.
