The Pilgrims Way 1976

Day 12 - Aylesford to Charing

Today's Mass was open air at the Friars, though I'm sure we mustered a bigger congregation than this!

The morning's walk took us to Detling and the Cock Horse for Lunch.

In fact, the afternoon was littered with temptation. Here the back markers check the Black Horse at Thurnham

And now the pilgrims rest at... the Pilgrims Rest at Hollingbourne (a bit posh for pilgrims, mind you)

But not much further to All Saints Church

Our next stop was by the War Memorial at Lenham, a massive cross cut into the hillside.

And then on to Charing Church Barn for our overnight stop. This is adjacent to the church, approached via the churchyard. I do recall (on this occasion or a later one I don't know) certain practical jokers hiding behind gravestones as pilgrims retuned from taking a nightcap in the village.
